Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to St. Michael the Archangel Elementary School and the PreK-3 class for the 2024-2025 school year! This is the beginning of your child’s elementary school journey. This is an exciting, yet somewhat scary time for your child. This is possibly their first time in a structured school setting, so it may be a bit overwhelming for them. I understand the butterflies in their belly and the jitters they may be feeling, even after 25 years of teaching in this setting, I still experience the same feelings. That is why we have a lot of fun activities planned for this transition into the academic world.
We will start the year off by learning the routine and procedures of our classroom and getting to know each other. We have many different areas we will be covering in our academics, identifying letters, name recognition, counting, patterning, sharing, taking turns, and how to be a friend. We use the “Frog Street Threes” curriculum to guide us through these areas. We will start each day with a “greeting circle” where we will pick jobs, say the pledge of allegiance and morning prayer, do calendar time and weather have a morning message, read-aloud story time, and have a movement time. We will be learning about Jesus, prayers, and our faith in our religion class. In addition to these activities, your child will also have specials. The specials are library, art, music, Italian, and gym, dates and times will be posted.
After lunch, we will have a rest time, we will provide a mat that has an attached pillow and blanket. No blankets or stuffed animals from home are allowed. On Fridays, they will be sent home to be laundered. After naptime, the children will be able to use centers to reinforce the lessons they learned in the morning.
I will be sending some papers home at our meet and greet that will help me get to know your child better. Some of the information will be asking about your family, pets, and some of your child’s favorite things. Please return them as soon as possible so we can share them with the class. I am looking forward to working with you and making this learning journey a fun experience for your child. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
