****Summer Reading 2022-2023***

Dear Parents and Students:
            Welcome to fifth grade! In ELA we are going to be reading many stories in which we talk about expression and imagination.  Throughout these stories, we will participate in many educational activities.  In order to prepare us for this fun and exciting journey, I need you to become acquainted with fictional characters and places over the summer.  By completing the summer reading, I would like you to enjoy using your imagination and personal expression by reading the following books:

1. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis
2. The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

When the books are completed write two short essays.  (One on each book- 10 to 12 sentences each) Describe your favorite parts from each book, and why you chose those parts.  Along with the essay, express yourself by illustrating your favorite part on a separate sheet of paper, to share with your class in September. 
 
Please share this letter with your parents so that they can help you find the books that are needed in order for you to show your imagination and expression.
